Pushing It - By J.P. of Upper Hutt

Archived Pages > Visitor Opinions

Just wanted to say that on one occasion I had to get from Palmerston North to Upper Hutt (about the same distance) in a hurry late at night.

I left Palmerston North at 11.00pm and arrived home at about 12.30, a total trip of 1 1/2 hours.

During that time I was doing approx mixed speeds of 160-180 (yes it was an emergency) on open road and 70-80 through townships. I would guess my average speed at about 130.

This is late at night, no traffic, no interruption.

So to do it in the time stated by police would be pushing it during late daytime, to say the least.

I don't have an opinion on his innocence or guilt really, but thought I would share that experience.

Thank you for sharing your experience, JP.

We would be interested in the exact distance and time, in order to work out your average speed for comparison with the trip that Mark was alleged to have done. Also the type of car and engine size.

Mark's Ford Fairmont was fitted with a device that limited the maximum speed to 180 kph, and the car was a 4 litre 6 cylinder model.
